The exhibition was originally conceived for the Musée de la vie Romantique in Paris, where it was on view last year. Comprising over two dozen plaster and wax sculptures completed between 2016 and 2018 as well as paintings and works on paper, Dans l’Atelier presents viewers with an intimate look at Lüpertz’s conceptual process. 

Michael Werner Gallery, New York is pleased to present Jörg Immendorff: Questions from a Painter Who Reads, opening 21 February. This exhibition of paintings is a visual history of one of the most important artists to emerge from post-war Germany and spans four decades of the artist’s career from 1974 to 2007.

Comprising loans from private and public collections, this exhibition presents a selection of paintings and works on paper by Puvis de Chavannes, a seminal artist of the late nineteenth century. The exhibition is curated by art historian and former National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa curator Louise d’Argencourt, and Bertrand Puvis de Chavannes, the painter’s great grandnephew, an art historian, and the President of the Comité Puvis de Chavannes. D’Argencourt also organized the first posthumous Puvis de Chavannes retrospectives at the Musée du Louvre, Paris (1976), and the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa (1977).

This exhibition presents a selection of major works by Marcel Broodthaers, one of the most influential artists of our time. The exhibition includes Broodthaers's installation "Dites Partout Que Je L'Ai Dit", as well as a major mussel panel and one of the only paintings by the artist.

Summer Reading is a survey of artists' books and rare editioned works by Georg Baselitz, George Brecht, Marcel Broodthaers, James Lee Byars, Per Kirkeby and Markus Lüpertz published by Michael Werner.

Thomas Houseago presents new works in plaster, wood and bronze for his first New York gallery exhibition.

The exhibition features portraits of women, primarily nudes, by Swiss artist Félix Vallotton (1865-1925). This is the first New York gallery exhibition devoted to the artist's paintings. A fully illustrated catalog including a text by Peter Doig accompanies the exhibition.

Disillusioned by the outcome of European political events of the late nineteen sixties, and dissatisfied with his role as an artist, in 1970 Immendorff joined the League Against Imperialism. Having pledged to produce art in the service of the German Maoist party, Immendorff proceeded to create a unique body of work in stark contrast to the his playfully anarchic paintings and happenings of the previous decade. For Immendorff, the early seventies were a period of intense exploration into the possibilities of melding of art and politics.

New System Paintings presents new works that explore the A.R. Penck's ongoing fascination with visual systems and social structures. The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue.

For summer, Michael Werner Gallery presents GOLDDUST IS MY EX-LIBRIS. This exhibition of works by James Lee Byars includes a major gilded work, as well as works on paper, in which gold is the medium for an aesthetic experience rooted in an ideal of luminous, inaccessible perfection.

Michael Werner Gallery presents Sigmar Polke: Lens Paintings, an exhibition of extraordinary new works from an artist whose career is characterized by over 40 years of radical innovation in painting. The exhibition is accompanied by a full-color catalogue produced by The Arts Club of Chicago, with images of all works exhibited during the tour, and a text by art historian Chrissie Iles.
